Pioneer Basketball Teams Host First Annual Boo Bash
The men’s and women’s Glenville State College Pioneer basketball teams hosted its first annual Boo Bash on Friday, October 30, 2009 at the Jesse R. Lilly Jr. Gymnasium. The night featured the players and coaching staffs of both teams handing out candy, participating in games, and just having a good time with local children from Glenville and the surrounding area. Highlights of the night included a costume contest in which the winner was awarded an autographed basketball signed by the players on both teams. Approximately 30 children and their parents attended the first annual event and a good time was had by all.
While there were plenty of things to do in Glenville during the Halloween weekend the Pioneer basketball teams were excited to offer another fun activity for the local kids. “Our event was something fun, free, and safe for kids to attend. It was a great opportunity for the kids to meet our players and for our players to give something back to the community. It’s always a good thing when our student-athletes can have a positive interaction with the kids in our community” said Coach Harkleroad.
“This year’s Boo Bash was the first of many to come and our goal is to see it grow each and every year,” says coach Dye. “I believe the local kids had a great time participating in the event, as well did our Pioneer Basketball Programs.”

Men’s Basketball Announce First Scrimmage Game
Men’s basketball Head Coach Stephen Dye is proud to announce that the 2009-2010 team has began practice and so far the team has been working pretty hard. “The first three practices were very good, says Dye, the guys were full of energy and worked extremely hard. “ Since then the team has had several solid practices and a couple practices that Coach Dye has not been pleased with. “These young men don’t understand that amount of hard work that it takes to win championships, so it’s going to take some learning but I have complete confidence in each and every one of them,”
The Men’s basketball team will have a few more practices before their first scrimmage game rolls around on Monday, October 26 at Lilly Gymnasium. The Pioneers will get to face Potomac State in its first battle against someone other than each other. The scrimmage game will begin at 6:00pm and is open to the general public free of admission.
“Hopefully we can learn a lot about ourselves in this first scrimmage,” says Coach Dye. “As a coaching staff, we are looking for many things and hopefully we will see something good on Monday evening.”

Lady Pioneers Continue Tough Start Against PSAC
The Glenville State College Lady Pioneer volleyball team played in another very tough tournament this weekend against competition from the PSAC. The team played Clarion and the host team Shippensburg on Friday, dropping both matches. On Saturday, the team played Edinboro and Slippery Rock.
In the Friday matches, there was a level on inconsistency that proved to be insurmountable. At times the team looked solid, but errors in hitting, serving, and passing overshadowed the hustle that at times had been lacking prior to the Clarion match.
